Christina Alexander Biography

christina alexander dyslexia consultant

Personal Biography

Christina was born in the sheep and lake country of New Zealand and trained as a teacher in Dunedin. She taught infants in the far south then married a scientist, moved to Brisbane, had two children and studied Journalism, English, Psychology and Remedial Education at the University of Queensland.

Christina resumed teaching, secondary and tertiary (Queensland state system and Kindergarten Teachers College), resigning to work full-time as a remedial teacher.

Unable to find suitable teaching aids, she developed her own numeracy and literacy prevention and intervention remedial systems, over 18 years of intensive grassroots research.

Traditions or Influences

The humour and poetic devices of Edward Lear, Dr. Seuss and Cole of Coles Funny Books were influences in writing for the failed and discouraged who were too dispirited to work on regular dull texts.

Charlie Chaplin's knack of reaching a wide spectrum of humanity - young, old, male, female, rich and poor was striven for.

The wide landscapes and vision come from high country NZ environs. Quirky characters tend to inhabit such regions and permeate writing.

Professional Biography

Christina's work is published by Turkey Tracks Press. Designed for home use, the books and kits are, however, now used globally by gifted and talented mainstream speech/hearing/sight-impaired, all ages above 4 years, college/school and dyslectic populations.

Christina is now a dyslexia consultant and writer. She is also the co-founder of the Brisbane Dyslexia Association, Seminar Leader for numerous dyslexia community awareness seminars with Apex, Lions International, and others in both metropolitan and remote areas.

She conducts annual dyslexia 4-day vacation schools for parents and associated professionals (teachers, doctors, librarians, para-medical personnel) with trained tutors.
