60 components. Pre-school to Year 3 level.
Designed for pre-school primary (hereditary) and secondary (trauma)
dyslexia sufferers so that early schoolroom failure in printing,
reading and numbers is greatly alleviated.
The ABOD is a giant drawstring bag containing 3 non-book large-scale
components of door-sized cloth pages, cylinders, and scrolls for
matching and multi-sensory work with humour and animal themes. Advanced
components are book-workbook and a rhyming reader to culminate with.
The reader and non-book parts contain vocabulary, which dyslectics
commonly confuse. Processing this along with fun caricatures of
animals and circus people in a holistic, multi-sensory mode (see/hear/feel/say)
focuses and reinforces the difficult things. Prevention is better
than cure.
Though large, the boodle compresses to accommodate well in large
or small spaces. It can be used on lawn or carpet depending on circumstances.
It is for creative minders of children in families where spelling,
reversals, writing, reading are a problem. Also play schools, kindergartens,
teaching colleges et al who would appreciate the applied psychology
practicality of the system when world concern on the 3 Rs matches
medical science advances in retention of premature and other at
risk babies.
The Boodle prepares for school by semi-formal, large format, number,
picture and word experiences using huge, rough-textured pages, scrolls,
cylinders and three dimensional items and cards for manipulation
of these.
The auditory, visual and tactile senses are involved simultaneously
as much as possible. Colour coding is used and students progress
gently from caricature animal pictures to single sounds through
to sentences of an appropriately basic kind.
The gradual progression from purely pictorial to coherent sentence
and number usage is in game form managed on the floor where users
crawl about the large 'canvases' to complete skills. Yet embedded
in the naivety are the most frequently recurring symbols which confuse
early school goers across the range of intelligence - particularly
if they are dyslectic.
The Boodle provides a bridge between the informality of kindergarten
and the very formal and demanding life of year one at a regular
infant school. The Boodle is easy to drive so is not intimidating
to relatives or lay helpers at home or in lay group situations.
A Boodle of Doodles is for all four year olds, non-readers, victims
of look and say visual method, accident victims, mild stroke sufferers
who need to begin again so that their talents can emerge.
From the cottage to the castle to the tree house in the great outdoors,
lawn, wall, table, A Boodle of Doodles can be spread out for use
then compressed, reboodled and hung on a nail behind a door or on
a wall. It squeezes up small and expands.
Kindergartens, play schools, city and rural homes, hospitals, clinics
will all suit nicely.
Enjoy it and save later school woes, to assist recovery of language.
