granny's shed

Excerpt:

"I fish out my key, unlock, burst inside,
Toss my bag, make for the fridge door,
Prepare heaps of snags and eggs, fried,
In our studio apartment - sixtieth floor.

Out of the windows, stretches the city.
Ant people, matchbox cars far below.
Planes, gliders, kites, clouds, blue-misty.
All soundless to me at this high window.

The doorbell! I lift the spyhole flap,
Look out, keep on the lock and chain.
Friend or stranger? Postman! Good chap!
I take a letter, replace lock and chain.

A letter to me from a country location,
From a farm I visited last as a baby.
Grandma invites me this school vacation.
Tractors, farmhouse of 30 rooms maybe!''
